01 / Understand the starting point
What does “behind” look like?
Sometimes it means a few months of transactions that haven’t been reviewed. Other times, accounts do not reconcile, records are incomplete, or the numbers in QuickBooks need a closer look.
Catch-up work addresses unfinished periods. Cleanup focuses on records that need review or correction. Your business may need one, the other, or a combination of both.
02 / Start a conversation
Bring what you know.
A useful first conversation starts with a few simple questions:
- When were the books last up to date, as far as you know?
- Which accounting software are you using?
- Are bank and credit-card statements available for the unfinished periods?
- Is there an upcoming tax-preparation need or other deadline we should discuss?
It’s fine if you don’t have every answer. You can begin with a phone or video call, or an email explaining what you need help with. We’ll discuss any records or access needed for the next step.
03 / Agree on the work
A scope that fits your books.
The work involved depends on more than the number of months outstanding. Transaction volume, unreconciled accounts, missing records and corrections can all affect the scope.
After learning about your business and reviewing your books, Sequence recommends the support needed and provides a tailored quote. That gives you a clear basis for agreeing on the work before it begins.
04 / Plan the next step
From catching up to keeping up.
If ongoing support would help, we can discuss a bookkeeping arrangement with reconciliation and reporting schedules suited to your business. Cleanup and continuing support can be considered together, with the responsibilities and price agreed for your needs.
